Community Hero – October 2024

Thanks to my mate David Silvester from Liquid Edge Creative for this idea.

Between my paid photographic assignments, I have decided to capture someone from our community doing awesome work. I want to do this every month to remind us all that, in the midst of the economic, social, health or other challenges we may face, there’s always something we can do for someone else that makes a difference.

For October, I present to you the incredible Ange Holsaff, a chef whose culinary creativity and dedication make a huge impact.

I met Ange through our shared passion for volunteering at Kaibosh Food Rescue & Koha Kitchen in Petone.

Every weekend, a mountain of food arrives at Kaibosh Depot in Petone. If not for this social enterprise, all this food will end up in the landfill.

The fresh food items will change depending on the season. Ange crafts 50-100 meals that nourish many through various charities in Lower Hutt.

Her ability to transform simple ingredients into a feast is nothing short of magical! And no, she does not use ChatGPT to figure out what to do. She relies purely on her experience and instinct to decide what to cook.

Join me in applauding Ange, a true community hero, whose hard work and generosity reminds us of the profound impact one person’s efforts can have on the lives of many.
